The Education Minister must not be allowed to foist her narrow personal prejudice upon the people of Northern Ireland.
People here have consistantly voted, by a clear majority of two to one, to retain some form of academic selection, albeit not necessarily in the format of the 11-plus today. The ball is now firmly in the court of unionist MLAs (both parties) to reject her fanciful proposals before she manages to wreck the finest public education system in the UK.
Is the Minister not also aware that across the water three-tier state education is currently being dismantled in favour of returning to the two school system with transfer at 11? The education of our children is far too important to be entrusted to the care of this outdated ideologue.
