Mr Herron of Londonderry says a flag for Northern Ireland should be based on the flag of St Patrick (Write Back, October 26).

The Northern Ireland branch of the Motorcycle Action Group took precisely this approach, using St Patrick's cross as its emblem from the early 1990s.

The motorcycling community had no problems adopting this and rugby is as cosmopolitan in its support as motorcycling.
