Calais language is dehumanising

People on the Syrian border are described as "refugees", so why use the clinical word "migrant" for those in Calais?

These people are clearly fleeing war and poverty. This crisis is an emergency that did not exist 15 years ago. I ­wonder what happened in the ­meantime?
