Cameron shows his mettle, like Chamberlain did
David Cameron headed off to the EU budget negotiations telling anyone who would listen that he would strongly oppose the proposed 6% hike in the EU budget.
At a time of cutbacks across all nation member states, this is only what the national electorate would have expected. How sad it is, therefore, that he returned, Chamberlain-like, waving his piece of paper confirming the increase was only to be 2.9%. We are supposed to view this as a great victory. The outcome is the UK has to pay an extra £450m each year to keep the fat cats of Europe in the style to which they have become accustomed.
