Canal Trust and family saved historic house
You published an article (News, January 21) relating to the former Lagan canal manager's house in Lisburn and plans for its restoration.
The article suggested that its destruction was only averted by the action of former Environment Minister Alex Attwood following a planning application which, if approved, would have resulted in the destruction of the house.
As representative of the family who purchased the house in 1959 and who recently sold it, I would like to point out that my family had already reviewed our proposed uses for the site and it was ourselves who contacted the Lagan Canal Trust.
Our application for planning permission was more related to improving potential value of the site, rather than specific plans we had. I write as I do not want the impression given that it was Mr Attwood, or anybody else, who saved the house, rather than the family and the Canal Trust.
