Catholic Church should listen to congregations

Published 02/05/2014

IT was with great sadness that I read the open letter from the bishops of Northern Ireland on equal marriage.

The Catholic Church has much to answer for in the high levels of suicide, depression and low self-esteem among young gay people.

As a lapsed Catholic and a gay man, I do not need the Church's approval to legitimise my same-sex relationship, but it would be nice. If I were them, I would ask the Catholic people what their view is.

While they are representing God, they are also representing their congregation.
