CCEA council deserves praise

The Belfast Telegraph is right to scrutinise the work of bodies such as the CCEA (News, June 30).

I trust that, in the interests of balance and as a former employee, I will be allowed to comment.

Gavin Boyd, as chief executive of the CCEA, has transformed a dysfunctional organisation into one of excellence.

Contrary to the obvious perception, the cost-effective decision to use a private flight to a Galway conference was taken to protect public finance. It was the cheapest option.

The CCEA council consists of members who are not paid but give their time and expertise for free. Other matters of genuine concern referred to were taken by another accounting officer - not by Mr Boyd. Finally, eye-catching headlines should not detract from hardworking CCEA officers.
