Celebrities and abortion debate

Published 07/03/2013

Fionola Meredith (Comment, March 6), referring to the abortion amendment to the Criminal Justice Bill, dismisses Mickey Harte's ability to comment on "the complex ethics of reproductive rights". Similarly, Alliance MLA Anna Lo has said that he should "stick to GAA".

Can such a disdainful attitude from public personalities actually be helpful? Interestingly, of those individuals, it would seem only Mr Harte mentions the rights of the living, unborn child.

It is easy, but wrong, to erase the child from the abortion debate.
