Cocaine celebs set no example

Published 15/12/2010

Gerry Ryan and Katy French are two of Ireland's most high-profile examples of how the drug cocaine can destroy lives.

Cocaine is the most powerful stimulant in the world and, when mixed with other drugs, produces what can be a lethal cocktail.

Alcohol mixed with cocaine produces coca-ethylene, and is particularly dangerous to the heart.

Cocaine is too often seen as a fashionable and innocuous drug, especially in celebrity circles.

The celebrity world seems to be awash with horror stories of people who play around with drugs or prescribed medication.

People look up to celebrities and are in awe of them. It is time people got the message: cocaine is a killer.
