Whether you think Hugo Chavez has done much for his fellow countrymen depends on what you read and what you believe (Write Back, March 8).
The Western media has generally been anti-Chavez.
Re-nationalising the oil industry was a case of swapping who gets the profits – the elite/foreign companies, or the poor. Also, since 1998, 96% of Venezuelans eat three times a day, infant malnutrition has been cut from 7.7% in 1999 to 3.2% and eight million more people have access to clean drinking water.
If he's a hero to the poor, that's good enough for me.
