Customers get on board with Translink

Michael Wolsey (Comment, February 6) commended the objectives of the 'Belfast on the Move' traffic measures.

These include more priority for buses, cyclists and pedestrians and creating alternatives for those motorists who use the road in front of the City Hall simply as a through-route.

He rightly makes the point that, for motorists to change behaviour, both 'carrot and stick' are useful, noting that Translink's bus services have stepped up to the mark. In September, we announced a £29m investment in 145 new Metro and Goldline vehicles. Over the past year, 1.5 million more passengers have chosen to use Translink's bus and train services. We have higher customer satisfaction, lower fares and better growth than most networks.
