Cut out bluster and let's debate Europe properly

Published 10/03/2016

To allow voters to properly evaluate whether it is better in or out of the EU, there is a need for a proper, fact-based assessment of the pros and cons.

So far, all we have had is speculation, self-serving comments by vested interests, mostly from the remain brigade, and scaremongering by the Government and its political allies.

There is also a perceptible impression on the political front that David Cameron views a leave vote as diminishing his political standing on the world stage by not being at the top table of the leaders in the EU.

These are collectively no grounds on which the man and woman in the street should cast their vote.

What we need is a fair, balanced and honest assessment of each of the options, both in UK terms and in Northern Ireland terms. At the moment, we are all being asked to vote in the dark.
