DUP are pariahs at Westminster

Published 28/04/2015

Normally, it's the king that loses the crown, not the king-makers, but no matter which way you play Jim Wells' comments on gay relationships, abuse and neglect, the DUP have yet again become a pariah for any incoming government.

I appreciate and accept that Jim Wells has been under a lot of personal pressure. But in such circumstances, what kind of party - knowing the pressures he is under, knowing his workload as health minister, knowing he will never win South Down - puts him up in a Westminster election? That, in itself, some would describe as abuse.

And where was party support for him once he made his gaffe?
