Easter Rising was success for Ulster

Published 26/01/2016

Unionist leaders should not be afraid to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising as it proves a success story for the people of Ulster.

The Rising was crushed in the short term and failed in its long-term objective of creating a 32 county Irish republic.

Furthermore, it was a catalyst in a series of events that led to the creation of the Northern Irish state, guaranteeing autonomy in Ireland for the historically and culturally distinct people of Ulster.

The only regret that can be felt by Ulstermen relating to that period of history is that three of Ulster's counties remain occupied by a foreign foe and suffer under the yoke of a failed rogue state.
