Elderly residents need bus service

Published 15/10/2008

I AM writing on behalf of elderly residents of a deprived area of Lisburn which currently has no bus service, no bus stops and no bus shelters — namely Hillsborough Old Road.

Ulsterbus take the view that residents in this part of Lisburn all have cars and have no need of public transport. This is simply not the case and it should be noted that residents have requested a bus service for many years, without a positive response from Ulsterbus to date. The £3m bus station is too far away for these residents to walk to in the rain.

Will Ulsterbus provide a bus service for Hillsborough Old Road residents? If not I will set up an early morning/late evening private shuttle to Sprucefield, Hillsborough and Belfast.
