Enniskillen schools decision clearly political

I WISH to express my utter disgust at the Minister of Education and DENI in regard to their decision to close two fine, sustainable grammar schools in Enniskillen - Portora Royal and Enniskillen Collegiate.

The announcement was certainly a Black Friday for education. If two schools of such calibre can be closed on the whim of an individual's political agenda, in spite of huge public opposition, is any grammar school safe?

This comes with a bitter taste to the entire community, as the minister recently decided not to close two undersubscribed CCMS schools in Fermanagh. I am delighted these schools remain open. But it just demonstrates the huge lack of equality.

In his statement, the minister said: "These proposals put the needs of the pupils first" - hollow words to the children sitting their entrance exam to Enniskillen Collegiate less than 24 hours later.

As a pupil, I feel victimised by the minister. I face the following year with uncertainty, as I feel my A-Levels are in jeopardy.

These proposals are clearly political and impact on a generation trying to move on and amend past divisions.
