EU must not let Turkey join up

Published 09/12/2015

Even the most vociferous voices who condemn stringent security measures of Western European states towards native Islamic extremists must now realise the potential entry to the fragile EU of nearly 80 million Turkish Muslims is a price Europe cannot pay.

And this is if Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish President, could be taken seriously in his claim that Turkey is combating Isis.

If we cannot see the cynical exploitation of a genuine humanitarian crisis by factions in the Islamic world, we will be sleep-walked into accepting Turkey into the EU.
