Fans' delayed entry an own goal from Linfield

Published 26/08/2016

The Irish League is trying to attract new and lapsed supporters. The arrangements for Glenavon supporters at Linfield last Saturday were the worst PR I have seen in attending matches for more than 60 years.

We were forced to walk half a mile and then queue for up to half an hour to gain access, so that many of us, including myself, missed a sizeable part of the game.

The situation was not improved by the guy in a Linfield blazer who poured oil on troubled waters by shouting at frustrated Glenavon fans about the stupidity of arriving five minutes before the game. He obviously knew nothing of our walk and queue before we came into his view.

The same thing happened last year, but Linfield do not seem to have learned. They were good on the pitch, but must raise their game off it.
