Ferris' honest comments should act as a wake-up call to Les Kiss on the direction Ulster are heading
letter of the day: rugby analysis
Following Stephen Ferris's comments on television last Saturday after the Ulster v Leinster match, I was most surprised with Les Kiss's reaction.
You have to bear in mind Stephen was working as a professional reporter and commenting on his thoughts.
May I add that most of us watching that dreadful first half would totally agree with his criticism.
Yes, Leinster are a very good outfit, but - most importantly - Ulster allowed them to play as they desired. Ulster were, as Stephen said, toothless, non-competitive and leaderless.
Les Kiss can complain about Stephen's remarks, but he must take them on board and make efforts to improve the performance all round.
It is his job as coach and, frankly, Ulster appear to be going nowhere, in Europe particularly, and fighting to get into the knockout stage of the Pro 12.
So, let's be constructive Mr Kiss.
We have some excellent backs but they cannot play without the ball. All simple stuff.
The bottom line is the forwards are just not good enough to overcome quality opposition.
Thus I suggest we go off to eastern Europe and seek some hard, physical specimens, or go down to Dublin where they have a surplus of good international forwards whom one would think would be thankful of regular representative rugby.
These are not only my thoughts, but my rugby mates totally agree with these comments and were pleased with Stephen's total honesty.
It really is a wake-up call to Mr Kiss.
