Flagging up trouble at the Giro d'Italia

VARIOUS official and non-official organisations are engaged in preparations for the Giro d'Italia, which starts in Belfast on May 9.

I suspect, however, that no-one has given consideration to the likelihood of dozens of tricolour flags being waved in the heart of loyalist east Belfast when the race travels to Stormont.

There have been numerous occasions in the past when members of the loyalist and unionist community reacted heatedly to the mistaken belief they were faced with the Irish tricolour.

The race colour of the Giro d'Italia is pink. God only knows what the widespread exuberant displays of pink will do to the fundamentalist wing of the DUP.
