Fracking risks at angling lough

This week Lough Erne in Fermanagh hosts the World Pairs Championship, one of the world’s leading angling competitions.

However, the future of such competitions is being put in jeopardy, as it is in the vicinity of Lough Erne, where a licence has been issued to gas company Tamboran Resources to enable it to develop up to 9,000 gas wells and extract gas using the highly controversial process of hydraulic fracturing (‘fracking’). Fracking is blamed for environmental contamination across North America.

A soldier was murdered by two suspected Islamists yesterday who attempted to behead and disembowel him as he left a barracks, in the first deadly attack in Britain since the 2005 London bombings.
