Funding fact on Royal Exchange

I am writing to respond to a letter from Councillor Ronnie Crawford of Lisburn City Council, headed 'Attwood "acting like North Korean despot"' (Write Back, January 30).

One of Councillor Crawford's comments was that the Department for Social Development is investing £110m in the Royal Exchange Scheme in Belfast. This is inaccurate.

The factual position is that, while the department may use its statutory powers to acquire land for the development, all costs are to be borne by the developer.
