Give war heroes their medals

Published 29/10/2012

I AM writing about the sad case of Eddie Grenfell and others who have not been given the recognition they deserve - particularly with Whitehall denying them access to a Russian medal (Comment, October 17).

Can I suggest to Eddie and the other survivors, or the Russian Convoy Association (there must be one) that they simply bypass Whitehall and contact the Russian Embassy directly, supplying their contact details?

I know that you are required to petition Her Majesty for permission to accept/wear a foreign medal, but this is 2012, so ignore the medieval nonsense and deal directly with the Russians.

Having acquired their medals, those who wish should wear them.
