Golf centre won't need taxpayer cash

Published 24/02/2012

I read with amusement the letter from 'Observer' (Write Back, February 23), stating that the investment in Bushmills Dunes Golf Club would be better spent on the John Lewis Development.

Are we now going to tell potential investors in our little country how they can spend their money? We wouldn't see their heels for dust.

I don't think, in any case, money is the problem with the John Lewis development, but I can see it taking business from the shops in Belfast and Lisburn - some of which are hanging on by the skin of their teeth in our present climate.

The golf resort at Bushmills will mean new jobs. The Assembly was quite right to approve the planning.

It won't be done with taxpayers' money and can only be good for Northern Ireland in general and the north coast in particular.
