Great Victoria Street needs pedestrianised

Published 26/09/2016

I write to suggest the pedestrianisation of Great Victoria Street in Belfast, between Grosvenor Road/Howard Street and Hope Street.

This thoroughfare features the iconic Europa Hotel, the Grand Opera House and the Fitzwilliam Hotel on one side; on the other side is the world-famous Crown Bar, along with Robinson's and Brennan's and several pleasant restaurants.

This is the centre of Belfast. Unfortunately, this area is a dump. It is dirty, smelly and probably actively unhealthy.

A clean, attractive Great Victoria Street would be a marvellous advertisement for Belfast and NI.
