Hacked off over TV journalism

RECENTLY, dozens of Turkish journalists have been fired and imprisoned for their coverage of anti-government protests.

Twenty-two staff members from Al Jazeera recently quit over accusations of bias. Foreign journalists covering this year's Bahrain Grand Prix were arrested and deported.

Amber Lyons, a former CNN journalist, last year alleged that the station was being paid by certain states in return for positive news coverage.

Are we seeing a crisis in journalism, or has it always been this way? What this amounts to is that we should never blame journalists for bad journalism. The problems are systemic.
