Help is there if you are feeling down

Published 21/09/2015

To mark World Suicide Prevention Day which took place earlier this month, Samaritans' message was to reach out to friends, family or colleagues who may be struggling and ask, 'Are you okay?'

The day's theme of looking out for those who could be at risk was endorsed across the world by the likes of Richard Branson, Ricky Gervais and X-Men star Hugh Jackman.

Today, 18 people will take their own life in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Reaching out to folk who are going through a difficult time can be a game-changer.

When a person gets to a point where they are focused on taking their life, they've often lost sight of trying to find a way through their problems.

It can be daunting but if you are struggling to cope, for whatever reason, or you are worried about someone, please reach out, whether it's to ask someone how they are or to let them know you need help.

It could make all the difference.
