Help with photos and Royal Blacks symbolism

Published 21/11/2012

I have found a picture once published in your newspaper and have reason to believe it is of my great grandparents from Warrenpoint, Co Down.

The woman looks almost identical to my grandmother, Edith McCabe. Her name may have been Sarah MacMahone and the man may be Joseph McCabe.

I would appreciate knowing who is in the photo that appeared in the Belfast Telegraph years ago and perhaps read the article if there is one to be found.

The younger man in the other photo is my grandfather, James Henry Stoops, who was granted the Red Cross Degree of the Royal Chapter of Black Knights in 1912.

I am writing a book about the Royal Blacks and wonder if any of your readers can identify the symbolism in the vest and the colours worn in the these photos.

Any help is much appreciated.
