Hill walkers shocked by threat to riders

Published 19/07/2016

I write in reference to an article in a recent edition of the Belfast Telegraph, headlined 'Mountain biker decapitation fear as wire traps left on tracks in Northern Ireland forest' (News, July 4).

The article appeared to imply hill walkers may, in some way, be responsible for this sabotage. As one of the largest hill walking clubs in Northern Ireland, the committee of Wee Binnian Walkers would like it to be known that none of our members have any issues with mountain bikers or the sport of mountain biking. We abhor this life-threatening and sickening practice on fellow lovers of the outdoors.

Chairperson, Wee Binnians Walking Club
