Holocaust Day a lesson for us all

THE results of genocide will be recalled on Monday, January 27, Holocaust Memorial Day, when we have an opportunity to remember all those who suffered under Nazi prosecution and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

The theme this year is Journeys. Northern Ireland is on a journey. We can challenge ourselves to learn from those who survived the Nazi death camps and recognise that genocide does not take place on its own; rather, it's a steady course of action, which begins if discrimination, racism and hatred are not condemned and nipped in the bud.

The warnings and results of irrational hatred that led to millions being put to death is something that must be remembered and never forgotten.
