How rules can just be ludicrous

A YOUNG lady with impaired vision was not allowed to fly because she did not possess the paperwork for her guide dog that the airline check-in staff demanded (News, December 13).

On a less serious matter, I have been unable to obtain the address over the phone of an acquaintance to send him a Christmas card from the people who have it, due to the Data Protection Act.

What has happened to showing initiative, or discretion?
