How UUP has sown seeds of a shock Seeley win

Published 28/04/2015

If Catherine Seeley does the unthinkable and Sinn Fein achieve their first Upper Bann Member of Parliament, Ulster Unionist Party egotism and self-preservation will have much to answer for.

Of course, while Jo-Anne Dobson's campaign will have been anything but helpful in retaining a unionist representative for the constituency at Westminster, she should not take all the blame.

Many in this constituency will continue to remember that Ms Seeley was handed a political platform - and a deputy mayoral chain, no less - in a side deal with the UUP last year.

The party preferred to bargain with Sinn Fein than risk missing out on the extra cash and status to a fellow unionist.

We may well reap what they have sown.
