I was proud to honour our brave soldiers

Published 11/10/2011

I WAS extremely proud and privileged to have attended the parade and reception for the Irish Guards on Saturday in Newtownards.

This was a truly marvellous occasion and it was fantastic to see the streets lined with so many people who turned out to show their support and appreciation for these brave young men.

Each one of us owes a great debt to each one of them. It is their dedication, their determination and their devotion to duty that allows us the luxury of living in freedom. These men sacrifice so much on a daily basis and some, sadly, have paid the ultimate price. I am just glad that, on Saturday, I, along with many others, was able to say thank you.
