As a motorist and resident of Belfast for over 60 years I would fully like to support the efforts of DRD in trying to curb at least one aspect of the open lawlessness to rules of the road that seem to be displayed by very many motorists.
Inappropriate parking only causes more dangers to all of us.
The road system in Belfast is little changed from that which existed in the 1930s and yet the level of traffic has increased several times over.
There are now very many carparks, excellent Metro bus services and several good park and ride facilities, which are not being used to the level that they should.
Unfortunately, there is now a culture embedded in many of us that we must drive and park at the place where we want to go, so that no walking will be involved.
Apart from the parking issues there is that of excess speed.
It is almost impossible to travel the length of the Westlink roadworks without being tailgated for travelling at the indicated speed of 30mph.
However, the speed limits themselves are often nonsensical. The dual carriageway at Cregagh is limited to 40mph while Dunmurry Lane is 60mph!
Perhaps there needs to be some sensible planning all round!
