I'm glad Tyson is coming here

Wednesday, 23 September 2009

It's said there is no such thing as bad publicity and this may well be the case with Mike Tyson's expected appearance at the Waterfront Hall.

I can't help thinking the women's support groups would have been better to say nothing. If they had, I might never have known he was coming.

But, thanks to them, I know he is and I am seriously considering buying a ticket as I would like to hear what he has to say on a number of issues - both inside and outside the ring.

I wonder if anybody else found out about his visit because of the women's groups?

That point (of squealing of the media selling more tickets) was made 19 years ago when Mr. Tyson was to fight in Manchester...the usual populist tabs went wild with anger - with a couple going all racist. Who turned up? Everyone who were 'famous' at the time, from shallow pop groups and football players, to gangsters from Moss Side & Liverpool and people who wanted to see him perform against Julius Francis. But this time, Observer - looks like the man Tyson may go elsewhere to talk...

Why my kids feel Olympics are not the real thing now

I did quite well in my school exams, but the only thing for which I can confidently say I stood out like a beacon among my fellow pupils was my record-breaking 100-metres dash.

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Why bringing up our kids should be child's play... or maybe it's not

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
