In business arena we must park our own views

Published 01/04/2015

I'm not native to Northern Ireland, but happily raising a family here for several years. I have a few questions to those supporting a bakery business refusing to make a cake because of a 'gay-friendly' message...

What next? It's OK to say no to making a Muslim child's birthday cake with the slogan 'Allah will protect you?'

Say no to a Hindu organisation's cake for a 'Deepavali' event (Festival of Lights)?

Say no to a cake for a Science Club marking an anniversary for Charles Darwin, because it's at odds with Creationism?

Our personal views can be kept and expressed in the privacy and dignity of our homes. In the work and business arena we must park some of those views and display dignity and respect for all our fellow human beings.
