In defence of the UUP’s canvassing

Published 26/04/2016

I feel it necessary to respond to and correct Robin Duke’s letter carried in the Belfast Telegraph (Write Back, April 21).

I can confirm that I did indeed canvass personally in the Hospital Estate in Lurgan last year at the Westminster election, as I did across Upper Bann. I never take a single vote for granted and am proud of polling 13,166 votes at that election.

As to this year, my Ulster Unionist running-mate Kyle Savage will be canvassing in the Hospital Estate on behalf of the Ulster Unionist team in Upper Bann.

While it’s not always possible to speak to everyone personally, our constituency offices are available on a full-time basis.

I respect the fact that Mr Duke will be voting on May 5 and encourage others to exercise their right to do so — naturally, for the Ulster Unionist Party.
