Independence vote: Could partition of Scotland be on the cards?

Published 21/07/2014

WHAT if, contrary to all the polls, a majority of Scots vote for independence? What, then, if the pro-Union side digs in and says they are not having it and won't be taken out of the Union?

If antagonism ensues, is it even possible that London and Edinburgh would contemplate partition?

We would then have Scotland split into two separate countries.

There may even be antagonism between the two parts of Scotland and also within each part (between the SNP and unionists).

Hopefully, such a nightmare scenario couldn't happen in this modern age.
