Is Orange about Protestantism or the Union?

Published 22/07/2014

IT'S interesting that the Orange Order will parade in Edinburgh the week before the Scottish referendum, with Northern Ireland members taking part.

What more could the Scots wish for than thousands of Northern Irishmen telling the people of Scotland how to run their affairs?

But is the Order about Protestantism? Or is it about the Union?

Because, if it is about the Union, this is not how the Order began as it was formed before Ireland joined. And what about Protestants who don't support the Union? Can they be members?
