It's only fair the BBC should pay for material
The House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee is now hearing evidence on the future of the BBC and its monopoly of news – now 48% of all news output.
This is far greater than Murdoch's domination, yet the BBC remains untouched. This week, the president of the Newspaper Society said unrestricted expenditure by the BBC on online news and other social media will destroy local and regional newspapers.
The committee was told one way of reversing this is to make the BBC pay all newspapers for the material it sources from them. This is very fair request.
