I am very pleased about Richard Dunwoody’s honorary degree — except he is only a national champion.
In Joey Dunlop we had a five times world champion and I don't recall him being honoured in this way.
The problem really is elitism — horses are more acceptable than motorcycles.
We should not forget Joey’s comprehensive and humble charity work.
However, as our universities are coaching their students through their degrees at unacceptably low pass rates, perhaps bestowing an honour on someone carries very little credibility.
