Kidney frustrating Ireland's progress

Published 09/02/2011

The IRFU should not make the same mistake with Ireland coach Declan Kidney it made in 2007.

That year, the IRFU famously granted Eddie O'Sullivan a contract extension just before Ireland embarked on an awful World Cup campaign. O'Sullivan's extension was cancelled shortly afterwards at a cost.

Kidney's excessive conservatism is preventing Ireland from building on the 2009 Grand Slam. Ireland needs a head coach who can take it to a higher level.
