'Ku Klux Klan' art demonises loyalist culture

Published 10/11/2015

I think it is very disappointing that Orangemen in Ulster and across the world have been depicted as the Ku Klux Klan.

We have heard it called freedom of expression, but I wonder if we would see paintings in the museum depicting some of the many migrants crossing through many safe countries to get to the UK wearing bomb vests? Would we see pictures of Travellers sneaking around buildings, stealing the lead from their roofs? I think not. I do not believe Joe McWilliams' picture is freedom of expression at all. I believe it is a quasi-political broadcast of the views of Irish republicans towards the Orange Order.

Orangeism and loyalism seem to be the only demographics in Ireland that you are allowed to say and do anything to without fear of the consequences.

Stop demonising our culture.
