Lady Hermon's stance praised

Published 27/10/2009

The comments of Lady Sylvia Hermon on her absence from the UUP conference are honourable and fair. Explaining her absence from Reg Empey's Tory love-in, the North Down MP said: "I simply couldn't go along and pretend to endorse the New Force arrangements."

Fred Cobain, Michael McGimpsey and Ken Robinson are all leading members of the UUP with well-documented Labour Party sympathies.

Why are they maintaining a silence on the fact their party has become a wholly-owned Tory subsidiary? By her actions, Lady Sylvia has shown more bottle than the so-called 'men in grey suits' at the top of the UUP.
