Lambeth walk is not for the Irish bishops

Wednesday, 6 August 2008

In the light of recent comments made by Archbishop Alan Harpur, there is a need for a fresh Biblical integrity within the Anglican Irish House of Bishops.

The Primate’s remarks inferred that, in certain circumstances, homosexual behaviour should be viewed as a ‘natural’ (acceptable?) pattern of human behaviour.

Such an assertion is at odds with Scripture, common sense living and historic Christian practice.

Was it correct for the Irish bishops and archbishops, individually or collectively, to attend the Lambeth conference? I think not.

Over 200 global and UK bishops, faithful to conscience and Scripture (at the June 2008 Global Anglican Future Conference) stepped aside from Lambeth 08 — but what of the Irish Church?

It seems evident that our Anglican Irish bishops are being diverted into a stance of liberal compromise, encouraged by our present Archbishop’s comment.

Lambeth 2008 gifted Episcopal USA gay activists a platform, from which have advanced hostility and deception, causing havoc among the wider Church.

When will the Irish bishops declare in favour of Scripture and of truth?

From wider sources I know that their compliance with error is a source of grief to many.

Faithful believers are wondering what of dignity and decency is left in the Church of Ireland.

It is inappropriate for our bishops to have done the ‘Lambeth Walk’.

I can only conclude that their attendance at Lambeth 2008 has left them, and the Church they represent, utterly compromised.

Non-attendance would have asserted a forthright clarion call to truth in the Anglican world.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Parties need better defence in Stormont's game of two halves

Surprise, surprise. Peter Robinson has been to his first gaelic match, Martin McGuinness is heading for Windsor Park and the Ulster Unionists have scored another own goal.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
