Let Church do its teaching in Sunday school

Tuesday, 19 October 2010

Church schools have an important role to play in the social education of children on matters of morality, ethics and behaviour, but this must be confined to church premises on a Sunday or other time after regular school hours. In other words, Sunday school.

I've been waiting 40 years for someone to have the guts to grasp the nettle and abolish all church-run day schools in Northern Ireland.

My hard-earned tax-pounds should not be used to subsidise the brainwashing of vulnerable young minds at schools run by any religion - Protestant, Catholic, Moslem, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist or Shinto.

Peter Robinson is correct in condemning our traditional structure and identifying it as apartheid. The only real hope for an integrated community in Ulster is the immediate separation of church and state in matters of education.

The kids are all right. They will get along fine and overcome the old divisions - if you will only let them.

Some churches have long-since lost the moral authority to teach anything about living in a civilised society. Don't let them near your children unless you are present.

Why my kids feel Olympics are not the real thing now

I did quite well in my school exams, but the only thing for which I can confidently say I stood out like a beacon among my fellow pupils was my record-breaking 100-metres dash.

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Why bringing up our kids should be child's play... or maybe it's not

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
