Letters: True meaning of Halloween
Thursday, 29 October 2009
The day has its origin in the Celtic New Year, which celebrated the return of the spirits of the dead to their homes. Hence, those who observe Halloween, though they are probably ignorant of what they are doing and why, are in reality celebrating death, the devil and Hell.
I encourage Christians to celebrate the Christians truths of these days with renewed faith as a response to the real concerns of mankind today.
Also, as an alternative to Halloween, might I suggest that parents not allow their children to go trick-or-treating, but instead attend costume parties where they can dress as Biblical figures?

Dawn. You should have got your comment in before Halloween. It could have been a good advertisement for that ultra reality show "Most Haunted."
Or how about start a new one "People do (and say) the Funniest Things."

I empathise with those who are unable to see beyond the farcade of fun in certain 'norms' for I was once there, until through personal experience I discovered the truth of the existence of the Archenemy of humanity-Satan himself- and realness of his demonic agents on assignment against humanity. It's too late to try to convince me that Satan is not "the prince of this air ".He resorts to the cleverest of strategems to ensnare unsuspecting humans. He is" the roaring lion seeking to devour..." and children are high on his agenda. While I reject Pagan practices and denounce satanism for obvious reasons, I do credit them with the wisdom of at least acknowledging that the spiritual realm is REAL and that there's serious stuff going on in the unseen realms of our universe that are far removed from the concept of fun. Let us Christians who know the truth be not judgmental. We know the source of the Halloween- is- harmless -fun lie and we should also know our duty to pray for the deceived.

It seems a lot of parents took Tim's ideas on board. On Saturday night the streets in my area were flooded (biblically) with Jesus and Mary look-a-likes. Every time my door rapped, a group of Jesus and Mary's were standing there demanding sweets.....freaky. Bring back monsters and Witches!!!

Tim,
I totally agree with you the bible says that darkness cannot comphrend the light. II Corinthians 4:4 says: In there case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbeleivers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. It also says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness in high places (MINDS). People don't think about what they are doing, that is why the Lord says my people perish for lack of knowlegde. My parents research and study to show theirselves approved. Save our children they are being effected by all these spirits that they are being subjected to by cartoons, movies, even toys. WAKE UP! I pray that all who read this have a moment to really think about what is happening to our children! It is progressive and they are being desensitized by the things they are seeing, hearing, feeling, touching. Okay I will stop but just take the time to really ask yourselves why?

Hi Tim
thank you for your comments and thoughts of Halloween.
I can see that when the truth is spoken there are many reactions against it.It brings me comfort to those like your self who are not afraid to express there beliefs without violence or personal put downs. There is great ignorance and delusion in the world.I praise the king that we serve that he that is in me is greater then he that is in the world.
God bless you Tim,and pray for those who commit wrongs against us.
love
Jonathan

Who Christianised the festival in the first place?

I think that we as christians should tell our children and everyone who will listen the true meaning of halloween. I also think that we should not provide alternatives to these holiday celebrations. I think that when we offer alternatives that we are conforming to the ways of the world rather than breaking the cycles of tradition amongst christians and future generations to come.

I am a christian and I think that Halloween is just a bit of fun. People are right when they say it is to mark the end of Summer. I think a lot of people are spoil sports and try to ruin other peoples fun. Also a lot of other christians give some christians a bad name by telling people what they should and should not do. This though dosen't mean that people should label all christian as the same and it dosen't mean that people have to attack others beliefs.

When we accept Jesus but refuse to renounce Satan and his practices, we are neither hot nor cold but lukewarmand the Word says that God will spit us out of His mouth.

I believe that we should not compromise our christian values. We cannot serve two masters.I will not give room for the evil one.I would like to impose that all parents withold their evil desires to serve the evil one through the utilizing of their children........

If your still dressing up, no matter what the costume is on halloween....Wouldn't you still be participating in Halloween?

hhmmmmm, Biblical Figures eh? I can see it now.. c'mon son, you dress as Jesus, I'll get yr brother the Pontius Pilate gig and yr sister can go as Mary Magdalane - what a conversation stopper - a victim - a murderer and a prostitue oppressed by men - be great for question time! - as for Halloween - while the world is art war with itself and terrorism is on a bus to your town, what little is left of childhood. leave the PAGANs alone and celebrate that life's one important measure is love and this small word is the one which puts my coat on and visits my neighbours with my children to say hello and wish them a happy halloween - oy yes, one last thing, GOD is Love - peace out

So where does this so called "truth" come from?
Posted by Ian Grant | 31.10.09, 09:29 GMT
How naive of you Mr. Storey and it only encapsulates and strengthens the single mindedness of christianity today and since the christians decided to oust the Pagans as "devil worshipers" i think you should perhaps do a little more research on your religion and see just how the christians persecuted and mindlessly drowned, burned, and beat the people they labelled as "witches". The Pagan faith is merely the belief in the things you can see, feel, and hear, the "devil" and "hell" are not even in the pagan vocabulary as they are words brought to mind by christianity! You are right to say that this day is our new year, and thank you for recognising that, and yes death is something to celebrate as it is the passing over from one realm to another, do you not celebrate the death of Christ? May i also remind you, that, Paganism is called the "old religion" as it was around long before Christianity!

Halloween is a complete waste of time...it is just an excuses for people to dress up in the most inappropriate outfits and get wasted with alcohol. To wake up the next day not remembering what happen in the first place. Second regarding to kids going trick or treating another waste of time. By this time any way the weather is either freezing cold or it is snowing. So yes lets fill our kids full of sugar, and send them in the cold. Then we wonder why everyone has coughs and cold s the next week.

Well done, Baker. You should really be running as a DUP councillor, some sort of unionist politician at least.

I am not even going to try to teach here. It is a fact that we all have our own beliefs and that they are deeply rooted so I will just make a comment.
We teach our children not to talk to strangers, not to take candy from strangers, yet some of you will dress them up like creatures, vampires and what ever else and take them to strangers houses and get candy. Tell me something, what sense does that make. This is 2009. Wake up. I have 5 children who have NEVER been trick or treating, or dressed up like the dead. They only miss what you have taught and took away.
I also believe that its is a satanic celebration, or at least that is what it has become. On TV you will find Friday the thirteenth movies and Halloween movies that are about murder and sex. Hello, are you that blind if it wasn't before it is now a satanic celebration because that's what it mirrors. Also, it is just another thing for you parents to run out and spend hundreds of dollars on costumes and candy. Save your money.

What, for heaven's sake has the returning home of the spirits of the dead to do with the devil or with hell???
