Libyan issue is a minefield

Published 10/09/2009

Britain is one of the world`s biggest exporter of armaments and some of the regimes and countries they have supplied have been very dubious.

British weapons have almost certainly been used by these people to slaughter far more innocent people than killed by all Libyan semtex in Ireland.

If Libya has to pay out millions in compensation because of the weapons it supplied to Northern Ireland, then Britain could have to pay out billions because of the weapons it supplied elsewhere.

No wonder Gordon Brown is reluctant to act. It is a financial minefield - and could cost Britain a fortune.
