Make policies that can work
WHILE Ed Miliband must be applauded for his announcement that a future Labour government would freeze energy prices, it seems – as with most party conference announcements – that he was simply playing to the crowd.
Holes were picked in the speech almost immediately. For example, can a government really tell a private company how much it should charge for a product?
However, surely one way that a government can reduce energy bills, whether Left or Right, is to reduce VAT on energy bills.
I would have thought that this would have been obvious and I would hope that George Osborne will be implementing this policy as soon as possible (or else Ed Balls – should Labour form the next government).
