Many Palestinians are happy in Israel
RANDHIR Bains (Write Back, July 16) is far too optimistic that a peaceful solution of the Palestinian problem could be found by a "land swap, whereby the Palestinians cede their claims to the larger Israeli settlements, in return for which Israel would surrender territory in predominantly Arab areas."
Unfortunately, whenever an Israeli leader makes this sensible suggestion, the Israeli Arabs living in areas likely to be transferred object violently, claiming it to be an apartheid suggestion.
Obviously, they realise they are much better off as Israeli citizens, equal before the law and receiving social benefits like anyone else in a free society, rather than to be handed over to the corrupt kleptocracy that runs the autonomous Palestinian territories – whether Islamist theocrats, like Hamas, or secular self-servers, like the PLO.
